What Is “7 Days for the Troops?”

7days_logo“7 DAYS FOR THE TROOPS” IS A PURPLE HEART HOMES FUNDRAISING EVENT started in 2006 by Scott Burns, a Marine veteran, with a service connected disability. Scott wanted to do something in support of our men and women fighting that have served; he decided to build a tower twenty feet high outside the Barnes Crossing Mall in Tupelo, Mississippi where he would stay for seven days (168 hours). This one time experience has turned into an annual event. “7 Days for the Troops” has raised tens of thousands of dollars for American service members and veterans’ programs by collecting donations through sponsors, raffle drawings, and creative fundraising challenges among the audience. In the past seven years 100% of the money raised has been given away. “7 Days for the Troops” events also brings visibility to issues facing transitioning veterans, and positive public relations for host organizations such as malls, sporting venues, or other community-based activities.

There are many great causes worthy of our support, especially in these trying economic times; however, the support of the men and women serving in the United States Military and our Veterans stands out as a great American duty.
